Music has always been an intricate and importantpart of Marcella’s life. Since childhood, she felt drawn to the musical world on one level or another. Her love and passion for music were apparent through the musical activities she pursued. During her school years she learned to play clarinet, guitar, took chorus classes, modern jazz classes and danced in a drill team. She was one of two female vocalists in the high school stage band under the direction of Mr.Robert Felix, Band Director. She and some of her classmates also formed a nine piece band while in high school. They performed at several events in their community. While in high school she auditioned for “Up With People” and was invited to tour with the troupe. Shortly thereafter, she was awarded a presidential scholarship to College of Santa Fe in New Mexico. She graduated from Espanola Valley High School in 1979.

She then opted for college and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology from New Mexico State University in 1983. |
In 1992, Marcella took time out from her career to stay at home with her two kids, Rubel and Marissa. Her first marriage ended in divorce in 1999. In 2002, she married Blane Sloan whom she credits with seemingly endless support in all her endeavors. |
Although she’s been writing songs since the age of 13, recently she decided to pursue singing and songwriting on a more serious level. At a crossroads in her life, she found musical inspiration when she least expected it. Needless to say her present musical endeavors are a manifestation of years of living, loving, disappointments, and a strong desire to find the good in every experience in your life. |
Her CD titled, “Men On Pause” is a reflection of her sassy, amusing and no nonsense attitude. Elvis Presley was her biggest inspiration musically and as a tribute to him, she wrote “Tiger Man-Elvis”, which is a featured song on the CD. Additional influences are Ella Fitzgerald, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Shania Twain. The album reflects her eclectic attitude about music. Genres apparent in this album are country, rock, blues and pop. The last song on her album titled, “Baila, Baila, Baila, Baila”, is a latin pop dance tune which reveals her ability to diversify into another language and genre. |
Her latin album comprised of original songs as well was released in the Summer of 2010. That album is comprised of traditional New Mexico music, ballads and pop latin dance tunes. She credits artists like Julio Iglesias, Juan Gabriel, Roberto Griego, Al Hurricane and Vicky Carr as inspirations for her latin music. |
